2007 RESULTS

In the days leading up to the 2007 High Desert Ultra, the weather was not cooperating.  Friday it rained.  On Saturday, chilly winds blew.  But race day dawned with clear skies and no W-I-N-D.  We had a record turnout this year--a total of 383 runners signed up. Some of those didn't make it to the start, but in the end, 347 of you crossed the finish line, 225 completing the 50k and 122 running the 30k.

Jorge Pacheco, 40, of Los Angeles blasted through the 50k course in 3:31:41 to capture the men's title in that race.  First 50k female was Ashley Nordell, 27, of Mt. Baldy, with a time of 4:11:21.  In the 30k race, Jim Reish, 44, of San Clemente, was the top men's finisher in 2:10:43. In the female division, Sue Zhilmann, 43, of Long Beach, obliterated the 30k course record with her 2:15 finish. Sue finished an impressive 3rd place overall in the 30k.

No course records were set in the 50k this year, but several age group records fell in the 30k.  In the men's division, Scott Higgins of San Diego set a new 20-29 record in 2:21:56, and the 50-59 division top time (2:22:20) is now held by Gary Cohen of Valencia.  Tom LeMire of Boulder, CO, beat his own 60-69 record, in 2:23:49. On the female side, Meghan Morris, San Diego, reset the 20-29 age group record with a finishing time of 2:30:18, and overall winner Sue Zihlmann also gets credit for a new 40-49 record. But the race is not just about the winners.  We know everyone will have their own story… If you have a story you'd like to share, send it to us, and we'll post it on the web site. Same goes for your  pictures. We had a great time sharing our running trails with all of you.  Come back next year!
