Dave Harvey—friend, ultra runner, and OTHTC member—passed away on August 4, 2002. Dave was a good friend whom I ran into at many ultras and at some marathons through the years. He was also a long-time member of the OTHTC. Dave had retired from the U. S. Forest Service after 20 years. He had worked for the Army Corps of Engineers and Bureau of Land Management for 10 years before his Forest Service job.
Dave entered races from the 5-kilometer distance up to the 50-mile distance. He ran in our Inyokern 10-miler many times and then ran the Wild Wild West Marathon the next day. Dave was also an avid hiker. Along with his love of the outdoors, he was involved with the Kern River Preserve and ran their Bluebird Nestbox Program.
Dave will be missed by the many runners he came in contact with.
One lone OTHTC member toed the line at Baldy Peaks this year.
It is considered one of the toughest 50Ks in the country if not the toughest.
Barb Miller ran this event as a training run in preparation for the Angles
Crest 100 miler. Great going on what I heard was a very hot day.
