The 2nd annual SGM 50K started at 6:00 am on a dark Saturday morning with 124 starters (5 of which came from OTHTC), aided with flashlights for the first 5 miles. The trail was narrow and hard to pass at the beginning but the runners were very polite and courteous (they let Chuck Jones go by). The course consisted of three loops, 1st loop 5 miles, 2nd 16 miles and the final loop 10 miles. The second loop took us up and over MT. Wilson (5800’) which had about 3 feet of snow for about 4 miles (Barb didn’t like it much at all). There seemed to be about 12 water crossings, I didn’t count them all I was concentrating on not falling down and trying to catch the elusive Tom Miller. This was a very tough course, but its full of adventure and well stocked/organized aid stations. I highly recommend the 3rd annual SGM 50K.
How we did:
Chuck Jones 6:03:10 3rd in age group (missed 2nd by 7 seconds)
Tom Miller 6:29:57
Rick Miller 6:39:39
Barb Miller 8:25:45 (This was Barb’s 1st out of town ultra)
Chris Rios 2 loop Rios (Chris entered the race injured and used it
as a training run)
