Name: Ruby Dison
Birthplace: Helena, AR
Date of birth: 1/23/67
Occupation: Administrative Officer
Education: AS Business Office Technology (actually finish in Dec)
Marital status: Married (Derrick)
Children: Alexandria, Terrence and Derrick Jr.
Height: 5’6”
Weight: Kidding, right???? If I tell you … well, you know the rest.
Shoe size: 9 ½
Year’s running/walking: I think 3.
Favorite running/walking surface: Anything but concrete. I don't really have a favorite; I'll try to run anywhere. I actually do most of my running on a treadmill.
Some races I have completed: MAD Dash, Black Horse ½ Marathon, OTHTC ½ Marathon, OTHTC 30K, Vegas Marathon, Bishop 50K, Volkslauf Mud Run
Running/walking achievement I am most proud of: MAD Dash 10K 2002 ... my first 10K. I finished with a horrible time but was so proud of completing it. It was like taking 1st overall.
Race I haven’t done but really want to: Bad Water
Typical training week: A mix of walk days, easy runs, repeats and 1 long, just week-to-week whatever seems needed and still fun.
Injury history: None
Best feature (Physical): Though not great, my best feature is my abs/waist.
Worst feature (Physical): Hips, hips and more hips.
Favorite running/walking foods: granola bars and potatoes
Favorite running/walking beverages: water
Things I like most about running/walking: Freedom from the every day rush … the feeling of going further or harder than I thought I possibly could … the feeling of knowing that it’s okay if I fail to go as far/hard as I thought I could …and knowing that I do this for no better reason than I really like it.
What got me started doing races: A friend and I entered the MAD Dash 5K walk just for fun; decided that I would run the 10K the next time.
Why I run/walk: Mostly because I’m in awe that I can and it’s a lot of fun (even though I complain).
Favorite quote: Don’t just dream dreams; live them.
Biggest inspiration: My parents (who just happen to be the best parents anyone could wish for) are my biggest inspiration. But in the running arena ... the female runners of OTHTC … the guys are cool too, I guess. J
