Years running:

Randy got me started our first year of marriage back in 1977, and I couldn’t go a mile.  I’ve been jogging off (sometimes for years) and on ever since.

Favorite running or walking surface:

Trails in the High Sierra

Some races I have completed:

Ultras are my favorite: Avalon, Bishop, Tahoe Rim Trail, Wild Wild West, Calico, Leona Divide, Holcomb, Mt. Disappointment, Baldy Peaks, American River, Redwood Park, and High Desert.

Running achievement
I am most proud of:

Each one is a challenge, but I was thrilled to finish my first
50 miler, the American River.  I couldn’t believe it!

Race I haven’t done but really want to:

Angeles Crest 100M 9-16-06   (Will I make it?)

Editor:  Yes, she did.

Typical training week:

Oh, dear.  Only about 30 miles, and that’s when I’m training for something.  I need to work on that.  Otherwise, 20 miles.

Injury history:

ITB once.  Otherwise, only minor aches and pains.

Best feature (physical):

Hmmm.  I don’t mind my nose too much.

Worst feature (physical):

I wish my hair was thicker.

Favorite running foods:

Chocolate chip cookies, PB&Js, watermelon, Pringles

Favorite running beverages:

Water; SPIZ (carb, protein, fat, elyte, vitamin powder) has worked well for me on ultras.

Things I like most about running:

I like the feeling of well-being it brings, and I love the satisfaction of completing a long hike, mountain climb, or ultra. A hard effort separates the body and soul.  And it makes food extra good!

What got me started running races:

Randy had the bright idea of running marathons and ultras, and I wanted to try, too.  And I think Curtis Davis had something to do with it.

Why I run:

When my legs are strong, I feel like a kid again.  Now,
I feel really yucky when I get lazy and don’t run.

Favorite quotes:

Life is short.  Running makes it seem longer.  –Baron Hanson

(That always makes me laugh.)

The glory of God is man fully functioning.  –Unknown

Biggest inspiration:

The many amazing ultra-runners I’ve met in their 60s.  I hope I will be just like them when I get there.
