OTHTC Profile - Carol Ann Wolfe

Name:Carol Ann Wolfe

Birthplace:Paso Robles, California

Date of birth:9-29-60

Occupation:Office Manager

Education:Bachelor's in Sociology from Cal State Long Beach

Marital status:Ecstatically married

Children:Two beautiful boys, ages 2 and 9

Height:5'5"

Weight:130 (in reality); 120 (in my dreams)

Shoe size:11(running shoes) Can you believe that?!!

Year's running/walking:Pretty much all my adult life but more compulsively the past 8 years or so

Favorite running/walking surface:Trails

Some races I have completed:LA marathon, Wild Wild West Marathon, Bishop Ultra, Hi Desert Ultra

Running/walking achievement I am most proud of: The Mt. Baldy Peaks Ultra has to be the toughest run I've ever done.Actually, I walked a good portion of it, and it was still tough.

Race I haven't done but really want to:Much to my horror, I actually was considering trying a 50-miler, but I haven't made the final mental commitment on that one yet.

Typical training week:Don't laugh.Three miles at lunch most days.Six to ten tough (hilly) miles on the weekend. If I'm planning on running in a marathon, I go for 10-15 miles on a weekend run for several weekends in a row prior to the marathon.Lately, I've added strength training classes and weight lifting to my routine.Plus, I have a toddler, and I chase him around for what seems like several miles a day!

Injury history:None that are running related. However, I have a couple injuries relating to my previous endurance-racing-on-horseback days.A hot tip:Falling down while running is nothing compared to falling off a horse going 20 miles per hour!

Best Feature (Physical):Hmmmm--when I'm really, genuinely happy, my smile has to be my best feature.

Worst Feature:Oh, which to choose, which to choose.Somehow, I manage to be knock-kneed and pigeon-toed at the same time.People can recognize me by my running style from miles away due to this.My husband always says that my big toes look like I was in a farming accident and had monkey thumbs transplanted in their place.

Favorite running/walking foods:I will eat nearly anything, anytime.I prefer GU for it's portability, but there's nothing like an egg-salad sandwich or PBJ in the middle of a marathon.

Favorite running/walking beverages:Water.

Things I like most about running/walking:I like being outdoors and spending time with my family and friends.I like to talk while I'm running (maybe that's one reason I'm often so slow).I love running with my dog, Xena, whose athletic prowess impresses me greatly.I love what running and walking do for my health and peace of mind.

What got me started doing races:I moved to Ridgecrest in 1985 and nervously attended an OTHTC fun run.I’ve been hooked ever since.

Why I run/walk:For the health benefits, for stress-relief, for the fact that I can pig out and not get fat, for the social aspects.

Favorite quote:"I'm going out for milk."Ha ha, this is a joke between my husband, Brian, and me.Whenever things get a bit rough with the kids at home, we joke about "going out for milk" (and never coming back!!).

Biggest inspiration:My husband, Brian, who is everything to me.
