Elaina McMahon Smashes Record at Leona Divide 50

The lone record breaker this year at Leona Divide was 50 year old Elaina McMahon from Ridgecrest. Elaina bettered the 50-59 women’s age group record by nearly an hour and was under her time from last year as a 49 year old by a whopping 35 minutes. Finish times for all the OTHTC runners:

Two OTHTC members were among the almost 8000 runners who ran the Carlsbad 5000 April 1, 2007. The weather was perfect, and both Dianne Rindt and Jenny McLaughlin ran well. Jenny ran 23:28 and ended up 16th in the female 50-54 division of 169 runners in the female masters heat. Dianne managed third place of 50 in the female 60-64 heat with a 24:16. 301 50-54 year old females and 111 60-64 females actually ran the Carlsbad 5000 if the runners from all heats are counted. Great finishes ladies!!!

Simon Ndirangu and Meseret Defar won the elite men's and women's races in 13:28 and 15:01 respectively.

The Junior Carlsbad is run the day before the Carlsbad 5000. The Junior Carlsbad features races for twelve year olds down to the one year old's "diaper dash". Distances range from one mile for the bigger kids down to 25 yards for the one year olds. As the announcer described it, the youngest kids' races are "better than America's funniest Home Videos."
